FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar energy offers a compelling choice for both your finances and the environment. By harnessing the sun's power, you can significantly reduce your carbon footprint, enhance your property's value, and cut down on electricity expenses. It's a sustainable win-win!
Discover the financial advantages of solar energy. Solar panels provide substantial savings by decreasing your reliance on expensive grid electricity. Coupled with government incentives, you can achieve a swift payback period, making solar a lucrative investment.
Consider your solar system an investment with incredible returns. With a 6.6kW system potentially saving up to $2,400 annually for an average household, you could accumulate savings of approximately $60,000 over the 25-year warranty period. These statistics highlight the long-term financial benefits.
Changing to solar quickly lowers household carbon emissions by 3-5 tons yearly and saves 60–90% of the power cost. When coupled with batteries, solar systems enable energy independence during grid disruptions and raise home prices by 3-5%. With government incentives like STC refunds and state-specific programs plus energy savings, Australia's abundance of sunshine lets most systems pay for themselves within 4-7 years.
Through photovoltaic cells with silicon layers, solar panels transform sunlight into power. Direct current (DC) electricity is produced when sunlight strikes these cells, from which electrons are liberated. For domestic usage, an inverter turns DC to alternating current (AC). Excess energy can run batteries or feed back into the grid, generating credits via feed-in tariffs. Usually producing 9–12 kWh daily, a 6.6kW system is sufficient to run most Australian houses.
Installable prices before incentives for a 6.6kW system vary from $5,500 in March 2025 and for a 10kW system from $13,000. By between $350 to 600 per kW, the government STC refund lowers these expenses.

After the $2,300 refund, for instance, a 6.6kW system usually costs $6,700 +/-. Through the Solar Homes Program, Victorian homeowners may save an additional $1,400; NSW residents get battery rebates up to $2,400.
Australia’s rebate system combines federal and state incentives. The federal STC scheme provides upfront discounts of about $400 per kW through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, valid until 2030.

Victoria offers $1,400 cashback and interest-free battery loans, while NSW provides $1,600-$2,400 battery rebates and solar-for-apartments grants. Most states also offer feed-in tariffs of 5-10¢ per kWh for excess energy exported to the grid.
STC calculations depend on location, system size, and installation year. For instance, Zone 1 (NT/QLD) generates 35% more STCs than Zone 4 (TAS/VIC). A 6.6kW system in Melbourne (Zone 4) installed in 2025 generates approximately 39 STCs, equating to a $1,560 rebate. The formula considers 1.185 (zone multiplier) × 5 (years remaining until 2030) × 6.6kW. STC values decrease 4-5% annually until the scheme ends.
In Victoria, households must earn under $210,000 annually, own properties valued below $3 million, and use Clean Energy Council-accredited installers like BVR Energy.

NSW requires incomes under $180,000 and properties under $3 million, with pensioners eligible to swap existing energy rebates for solar incentives.

Both states mandate systems installed by certified professionals – verify eligibility through Solar Victoria’s online portal or NSW’s Rebate Swap platform.
